01 - Top Down Level Design.

Being tasked with designing my own level, I started to research layouts of Junkyards and examples of action-adventure games. I reached upon the final concept of two Luchadores (Mexican Wrestlers) trying to manouvre themselves through a Junkyard owned by gangsters. The final design can seen below, finalised in Photoshop:

02 - SketchUp Brief

The level I chose to investigate was 'Run to Ground' from Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. I analysed the beats of the mission and pointed out the various techniques that the designer used to guide the player through the correct path. A top down view of the level can be seen below:

I went into more detail in the accompanying document:

03 - Unreal Block Out

I was tasked with using Unreal Engine 4 (UE4) to design my own block-out level, choosing from three diffenet locales; a castle, a bridge or a temple. I chose a temple, with particular inspiration drawn from temples from South-East Asia. This was my first time using UE4, and a screenshots of the level are below:

04 - Board Game

This was my first project in which I was part of a team. We were tasked with adapting existing video game IPs into a Board Game variant. My team chose Mortal Kombat and in the three weeks allocated, we were to codify a set of rules and produce a prototype. I created two A3 Boards to summarise our game:

05 - Favourite Scene

For the final project of the semester, I needed to design a level, drawing inspiration from a chosen piece of media. I chose the song 'Rasputin' by Boney M. and developed a level based around creating as much havoc and chaos as possible, manouvring the player (Rasputin) into the position of chief advisor to the Tsar. The location was Alexander Palace; favourite palace of the Russian Royal Family:

06 - Hammer Girl

The results can be seen on the website under Level Design.

08 - Life's a Pitch

The results can be seen on the website under Game Pitches.

09 - Weaknesses in Games

Examine and analyse one game that I like and one game that I dislike. Then, develop a mechanic for these games that would improve on any issues that I have identified.

The games that I chose were Horizon: Zero Dawn and The Sims 4
