Today I spent the day learning about Security and Safety, and even sat an exam on the subject at the end! But all that is boring and tedious….so today I will be introducing you to my Cabin Mates.
My cabin is located at the bottom of the ship; Deck 1 and currently is occupied by 9 people, all participating in the Short Term Exposure Programme (STEP). We come from a variety of different backgrounds and nationalities; I am the only British person in my cabin.
Johnny

Johnny is from Hong Kong and was training to become a Doctor before emabarking on the Logos Hope. He can speak English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
Jonathan

Jonathan is from California. One of his older brothers is already part of the crew and looks just like him! He sleeps in the bunk below me and is half American and half Filipino.
Nicholas

Nicholas is from Singapore, but had lived in Durham for some time, so is quite familiar with British Culture. He claims to do only ‘natural pictures’, so this is why his picture is so bad!
Christiaan

Christiaan is from the Netherlands, more specifically Freisland (which he is quite proud of). He really likes Football and knows a lot about the sport. Christiaan is 6’4″.
Isaac

Isaac is from Bulgaria, but his family is from South Korea. Seriously, his Bulgarian is better than his Korean! He also learnt English through playing Minecraft and Clash of Clans and through Youtube. See Mum, those things aren’t a waste of time!
Ruud

Ruud is from the Netherlands and is seriously clever. He knows so many philosophical and Biblical argumernts. By his own admission he also doesn’t know when to stop talking, so often he is late for things!
Taehee
Tae is from South Korea, but he spent much of his time in America, so he talks and acts like a stereotypical American. He has spent most of his life with International students, so the situation on the Logos Hope isn’t so extreme for him.
Victor
Victor is from Germany and had extended his STEP for another three months. On the first day we went to a mall in Antofagasta together to get him a SIM card. He spent the day in the Antofagasta desert, so he didn’t play football.
After studying safety and security all day, many of the STEP’ers decided to play football on Deck 9 (the roof). It was great fun and everyone joined in. Here are some pictures:
