Today I will be talking about the places that the visitors see first; the Whitehouse and the Quayside.

The Whitehouse is one of my favourite positions.

Here the visitors pay for their entry ticket and are permitted to walk into the port and Quayside. The ticket costs CH$1000 (£1.16), but children under 12 and seniors over 65 go in free.

The ticket also makes the visitors eligible for a free gift at the end of the experience, but I will elaborate about this at a later date.

The visitors then walk down the Quayside in order to reach the ship.

The Quayside in Valparaiso is so big that two volunteers are required, where in most ports, only one is needed. They are neatly called ‘Quayside 1’ and ‘Quayside 2’

The visitors must walk within the lines and take no photos of the Navy, so most of my time is spent making sure that they don’t break the rules. I also welcome them to the ship, or say goodbye depending on their direction.

The view from Quayside 2 is spectacular, here are some examples:

I often have to use an umbrella when on Quayside, to make sure that I don’t get burned, but I don’t have any pictures of this right now.

Overall, despite these two positions being quite simplistic in nature, they are easy and can be quite fun to do, especially if some interesting personalities want to board the ship…
