Today I will be explaining what I will be doing during my time aboard the Logos Hope, hopefully giving you a better sense of the activities I will be doing in the next three months.

‘What will I be doing while on the ship?’

I’ll start by giving a brief overview; for 5 days a week, I’ll be working 8 hours or more a day in a particular field, For one day I will spend time doing ministry (Christian work) and one day I will have free and be left to my own devices.

I am joining the ship as part of the Short Term Exposure Programme (STEP), which is a Programme especially for Gap Year students like myself. I will be part of a team of 10 young adults, only 2 of which will be from the U.K. As I am part of the STEP, I won’t have a particular job set for me when I board the ship, for this reason I can’t offer much information on what work I will be doing, but it can be as diverse as cooking, cleaning or being a librarian. It is likely I will be working when and where I am needed.

There are also other activities outside of my day volunteering, such as a Drama team, or what I’m really looking forwards to…sporting teams (probably Football, because I will be in South America). Indeed, there will be opportunities for the ship to assemble a football team and play with people in the ports that I stop off at.

In my free time, I imagine that I will be doing a lot of sight seeing with a partner (the ship has a policy of people leaving the ship do so in at least groups of 2) as well as probably catching up with both my blog posts and sleep.

There will be opportunities to do practical work in the ports I go to as well, although these will only be occasional. Most of my practical work will be spent making sure that the Logos Hope stays afloat, both literally and figuratively.

Tomorrow I will discuss ways that you can support me, and also relaying any information that I may have forgotten.
