07 - Lighting For Design

With this brief I explored lighting within Unreal Engine 4 and how it can be used to aid gameplay. I chose a mansion location and a mechanic closely linked to light was the Player's Torch.
Starting off with some research, I developed a moodboard to express a number of ways how light can interplay with a mansion setting:

I then cracked on to develop gameplay. With this project, a large emphasis was using the Blueprint systems within Unreal Engine 4 to reach the desired result for the player mechanics.
As such I produced twin videos; one purely a gameplay walkthrough, where my brother Samuel Bate played my level for the first time:
The second is a developer commentary giving a detailed walkthrough of my level and the design choices that I made during production:
